This new beach-themed cafe in Bangalore's outskirts might not be the best place to head to if you're looking for something new, but its definitely worth a visit if you're in the vicinity
As you walk out onto the roof terrace of this new Brookefield restaurant, the first impression is of a beach cafe -- except Bangalore's a good 400 kms away from the closest beach. Unfortunately the lack of sand and sea means that the palm trees, plastic furniture and laminated menus could easily be construed as tacky.
The interior decor is sparse but carries on the blue theme of the name and this combined with shingle-covered floor and school-canteen style wooden benches lend itself to a relaxed Mediterranean feel.
A huge selection of dishes fill the menu, which offers everything from omelettes and burgers to gumbo, pizzas and sizzlers with both veg and non-veg options. There is also a Specials menu, which the chef updates fortnightly with his latest creations, such as Lemon fish, cottage cheese corn steak, Italian chicken sizzler, although we were not very sure that some of these combinations were strictly continental, the food was tasty and very affordable. 
So, head to Blue Terrace if you're fed up with having to drive right into the city to find authentic continental food at a comfortable hangout where young people hang out over a long relaxed lunch during those lazy weekend hours.
A fine dining experience it is not, but take a sip of your mocktail, sit back and close your eyes and for a moment you can almost hear the sea -- a great chill out spot in the Bangalore sunshine.
Blue Terrace, is the newest entrant in fine dining destination in Whitefield and is craving to find itself a niche amidst the few relaxed, casual eateries in this area.
The mid-range market hasn't yet been cornered in Whitefield, nor has Continental cuisine. Blue Terrace aims to fill that gap, providing a breezy rooftop cafe within strolling distance from peoples' homes.u00a0

The restaurant offers soup, sandwiches, burgers, pasta, pizza, grills and sizzlers. It's Continental food made to Indian tastes, so what it lacks in authenticity it makes up for with the yum factor. They do a range of milkshakes, sundaes and mocktails too, but our advice is to avoid the latter unless you have a really intense sweet tooth.u00a0
Specials change twice a month, with the chef's evolving repertoire of desserts being a particular highlight. On Sundays there's a seven course brunch on offer, though the name makes it sound a little more elaborate than it is -- juice, toast, eggs, etcetera (and even preserves) are all counted as separate courses. Prices are undoubtedly reasonable, with mains ranging from Rs 45 to 120.u00a0 True to its name, Blue Terrace certainly embraces the ever calming sky blue hue. Combine this with whitewashed concrete walls, and has an almost Greek isle-like feel to it.u00a0
Starkly different from the beautiful interiors, the outside area seems to lack inspiration decor wise, but we were pleased to hear this was set to change. That said, the simple plastic tables, chairs and umbrellas aren't without their charm, in a laid-back, beachside way. Sitting out there on the terrace, the breeze ruffling your hair and milkshake in hand, you can almost hear the seagulls. Now that's a feeling that's hard to find in Bangalore.
