Orkut trends research reveals Delhi more fashionable than Mumbai, Bangalore

Delhiites have a reason to cheer. Here is a message for all those international rock stars and performers who have neglected the city of Djinns.

Delhi has emerged as the style capital of the country with Delhiites scoring over their counterparts in Mumbai and Bangalore so far considered more hip and happening as more stylish and fun-loving.

A research by search engine giant Google of the trends over its social networking website Orkut revealed that Delhi users are high on fashion and are more fun-loving with communities like 'stylish people', 'chocolate', 'unforgettable school life' and 'don't worry be happy' among the top ten.

For Mumbai and Pune the communities revealed the increasing love for all things regional with communities like Marathi Girls rock and Marathi community being the favourite among the users.

While at the city level love for the land rules, Bangalore emerged as the melting pot of cultures with communities representing people from various states getting popular.

The research also revealed that craze of cricket, celebrity and Bollywood seems to be dying among the youth on social networking sites.

"Bangalore is the true blue metropolis at least online with mixed searches and communities for people from West Bengal, Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu getting huge attention," said Rahul Kulkarni, Product Manager, Google India.

He said the results were unexpected as there was no Bollywood celebrity or sportsperson community on the top.u00a0

In nationwide searches Tamil cinema is on number seven. Even a community on TCS 2009 batch is in the top ten lists.

"There is no cricket in the top 10 list of the city but soccer is picking up among the users as Manchester and Arsenal football clubs haveu00a0 managed to find a place in the Mumbai search list. Tamil cinemas are coming up with off-beat movies which has made them score above Bollywood communities," Kulkarni added.

"We scoured through lists on a national level and then dug deeper into city trends. The results are fascinating," he said.

How the survey was done
Orkut looked at millions of communities and user trends to finally arrive at the ten most popular communities.

The trends are based on an anonymised and aggregated study of the behaviour of Indian users over the past seven days. The analysis was repeated over several seven day periods, to confirm the accuracy of results and to rule out episodic variations.
