In A matter of minutes since word got out yesterday that Christ University may lose its deemed university status, former students were rejoicing in cyber world.
It was clear from status messages on chat applications and Facebook profile statuses furiously being changed to reflect the views of former students on the developmentu00a0 that they had hated the new deemed university system put in place in 2008.
Christ College, as it was earlier known, became Christ University after a UGC-based accreditation programme kicked off the process of autonomy in 2007.

Several batches faced the inequalities created by the situation, and at one point in 2007 all three batches of a three-year course were following different systems.
The situation was brought under control eventually and this year would mark the first year of a 'completely autonomous batch' passing out.
Navdha Dhingra, who passed out from the 2004-07 batch of Journalism from Christ College, was one of first few to create the buzz when she changed her status to "So long Christ University!
Say hello to BU (Bangalore University) again," with a link of an article that announced the decision.

In no time she had around 30 comments and the news spread like wildfire. Some comments were more descriptive: "Rejoice all you batches to come.
You will make through with less than 60 % attendance. You shall score much more than that through leaked papers as the Bangalore University promises!
I know mine was the luckiest batch! All you loafers who boasted about being the prestigious University batch and its benefits, well now what will you say?"
Deepti Dilip Kumar, an ex-student from the same batch now based in Hyderabad, had a status message that read, "And Christ University is back to being Christ College!
Not that Bangalore University is any more amazing, but still, yay!" She further updated in a few minutes that she had "noticed, with some satisfaction, that not a single Christite is mourning at Christ University's derecognition. Hah!" She had 40 comments in a matter of minutes.
Another related status message read, "Ah, the government is alive! 44 institutions to lose deemed varsity status," while still another said, "Christ University loses deemed status? Oh, so there is a God after all." And there were a huge number of comments to these.
The Christ University management however responded by publishing a notice online saying, "As per Section 19 of the UGC (Institutions Deemed to be Universities) Regulations 2009 no withdrawal of the Deemed University status can be done without seeking written explanation of the institution concerned after notifying the deficiency and reason for such withdrawal.
Christ University strongly believes that there must be some error of judgment in the reported media communication.
The University is awaiting the official communication from the MHRD to take appropriate actions.
In the meantime it is requested that all students, staff members and well wishers to be aware of the situation but not to panic about it. Any further developments in this regard will be kept posted."
