To be implemented in coming month, plan drawn up to prevent traffic jams after new bridge comes up
The traffic police have proposed a new circular vehicular traffic movement plan in the Bund Garden area to ease the pressure on the Bund Garden and Nagar roads. The new plan that will be implemented in the coming month will completely change the pattern of traffic movement around the Bund Garden, Yerawada and Nagar Road areas.
This has been done with a view to tackle the traffic jams that will occur on the Parnakuti and Mahatma Gandhi junctions near Koregaon Park once the new bridge parallel to the existing Bund Garden bridge is completed in a month or two.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Manoj Patil said although the traffic on Bund Garden and Nagar roads will increase, the new plan will ensure it keeps moving. "The idea is to prevent bumper-to-bumper traffic as it causes jams," Patil said.u00a0 "With the new plan, traffic will not come to a complete standstill. The traffic in Koregaon Park area will remain unaffected."u00a0
Traffic will be directed from Nagar Road towards Parnakuti to Mahatma Gandhi (MG) junction, and from MG junction to Central Mall on Bund Garden Road. Commuters going to Sadal Baba Dargah from Nagar road will have to go via Parnakuti, MG junction, Central Mall and the new bridge. There will be a free left turn at the Parnakuti junction for vehicles going towards Sadal Baba Dargah from the Bund Garden bridge.
