With the BBMP running according to the mayor's belief in superstition, the budget promises to take a direct hit and several projects, which are in need of urgent financial assistance, will now move ahead at a snail's pace.

The opposition in the council found Mayor Sharadamma's decision funny in a sarcastic sort of way as she waits for Shravanamasa, which begins on August 10, to even begin thinking of the budget.

Some said this seems to be the trend in the state as the last financial year started off two and half month late and the chaos was attributed to the election of the standing committee. The election was held in May soon after the mayor and deputy mayor were sworn in.

The mayor on the other hand was quite confident that the wait would be worthwhile. "I have to begin things on a good note and am waiting for Shravanamasa. The budget will only be announced then," Sharadamma said.
The opposition wasted no time in condemning the ruling BJP council after getting wind of the postponement of the important announcement of the budget, which is the preface to BBMP.

'Very funny'
"It's really funny to see all this. While the city is suffering and its residents are losing patience, they are waiting to choose a good date to begin their mission of improvingu00a0 Bangalore's infrastructure," former Mayor and present corporator Hanumanthnagar ward K Chandrashekar said.

Toll on city
Infrastructure experts and environmentalists are also complaining. Captain Raja Rao, who was earlier the court appointed technical vigilance member to BBMP had sent 112 recommendations to the High Court pertaining to the city's infrastructure.

However, the lack of will and time-bound attention has taken a toll on the city on all fronts. "I had proposed a pilot project of having a separate lane for two-wheelers and three wheelers at Shivananda Circle, which makes up 70 per cent vehicles in the city. However, till date nothing has been initiated," Rao said.
