Commuters' organisations want Deccan Queen (DQ), which takes 3 hours and 15 minutes to reach Mumbai from Pune to cover the distance in 2 hours and 30 minutes.
The Pune Railway Pravasi Sangh wrote to railway authorities recently, demanding that the DQ, which completed 80 years on the tracks, yesterday, cut travel time.
It's done before
Incidentally, V V Bhagwat, a locomotive inspector, had sped the DQ in a record time of 2 hours and 40 minutes for six successive days in 2000. "I achieved this by maintaining a speed of 105 KM per hour. The record is unbroken for the last 80 years," Bhagwat told MiD DAY.
Harsha Shah, chairperson, Railway Pravasi Sangh and Mangilal Solanki and Ganpat Mehata of the Railway Pravasi Sangh, who have been travelling in the train for four decades, confirmed that they have written to railway authorities.
Sunita Dabhade, a government employee, who travels on the DQ regularly, said, "The train could do with an additional bogie for ladies. The problems of monthly pass holders and those who book tickets in advance should be looked into as well."
