A police officer shot himself with his service revolver on Saturday night following a tiff with his superior earlier in the day. Kalamboli resident Prabhakar shot himself in Panvel at around 11.45 pm, hours after he and MM Patil were embroiled in an alleged argument over the placement of a barricade during a nakabandi.

According to a source, On Saturday evening senior police officials had organised a nakabandi and prior to the security check operation, a heated argument ensued between MM Patil and Prabhakar in front of senior police officials.

It is alleged that Patil told Prabhakar to place a barricade on the road, to which Prabhakar stated there was no point in putting a damaged barricade on the road.

Patil is alleged to have then reprimanded him in front of other police officers, to which Prabhakar took offence. He left the spot, and was found
dead near a train car shed hours later.

“We have registered a case of suicide, but the matter is under investigation,” said a police officer from Panvel government railway police (GRP) station, who are investigating the incident, as Prabhakar’s body was found in their jurisdiction.

Sources said Prabhakar had joined Turbhe police station only 36 days back, out of which he was on sick leave for 26 days.

“I never spoke to him nor issued any memo to him, as he was on a sick leave since joining the police station. Then how can I be accused of harassing him,” said MM Patil, acting senior police inspector at Turbhe police station, as Senior Police Inspector Prakash More is on sick leave. u00a0
