Presence of Bangladeshi man near Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope alarms police

The Pune Anti-Terrorism Cell (PATC) arrested a citizen of Bangladesh, Milon Niranjan Mistry (24), in Narayangaon who allegedly has links to Pakistan. The presence of a Bangladeshi citizen in Narayangaon has sent alarm bells among law and enforcement officials as the world's largest Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope, is located in Khodad near Narayangaon.

Initial investigations indicate that he used to regularly make calls to people in Pakistan.

PATC Police Inspector Sunil Tambe, said, "The presence of Bangladesh citizen in Narayangaon where Asia's largest Radio Telescope is situated is an issue of concern. We are investigating the activities he was engaged in. Preliminary investigation point out that he had Pakistan links."

According to the police, Mistry hails from Ranihat, Bakerganj, Borishal district in Bangladesh. He was found to be staying in Narayangaon under the guise of a labourer at construction site some 40 kms from the city. Mistry was booked in an earlier offense registered at Bund Garden police station in January this year.

A team led by Tambe and Police Inspector Mohan Vidhate of Crime Branch Unit III searched his place of residence in Warulwadi, in Narayangaon taluk, Junnar and recovered bogus documents including a PAN
card and Bangladeshi birth certificate.

The case has been handed over to Narayangaon Police.

Police Inspector Shashikant Chavan said, "We are investigating on how he managed to get hold of a pan card and who helped him to get one." Mistry was produced in the court and was remanded to two days of police custody.
