Crowd plays the Good Samaritan, rushes accident victim to hospital

A biker who was severely injured in a head-on collision with another bike around 11.30 pm at Rahatni yesterday was immediately rushed to the Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) Hospital by a group of around 10 men

He was lying in a pool of blood, when the gathering crowd decided to waste no time in taking him to the hospital Bhanudas Kaleram Nakhate, who had accompanied the victim, said: "I was taking my nocturnal walk after dinner when suddenly I saw two bikes crashing into each other. The other guy got a fracture in his leg.

He called up some of his relatives immediately and fled the spot. This man was lying unconscious on the road with severe head injuries and gashes on his face." The crowd initially took him to small clinic. The doctors at the clinic suggested he be taken to the YCM hospital.

Rajesh Bhalerao, who was part of the group said, "A crowd had already surrounded the man and around eight to 10 men helped to take the man to the hospital."

There was no wallet or mobile phone on his person, so it was not possible for the hospital authorities or the group to inform his family. "We don't know if he is a local or from out-station. He has to get a CT Scan and other examinations done," Nakhate said.

The doctor on duty said the man was around 30 years. He said his condition was critical and they were waiting for the reports to assess his condition.
