According to the plan, two parking lots were selected for this facility from where low-floor DTC buses took VIP and invitees, including government officials below the rank of deputy Secretary, to their respective seating enclosures at the Rajpath.
"We ran nearly 150 low-floor DTC buses for the purpose. It turned out to be a success as the facility was availed by many. Besides, we achieved our aim of restricting the traffic to a certain location as per our security plans," a traffic police officer said.
It was planned that the invitees like the officials and other invitees alight at the car parkings, including Palika Bazar in Connaught place.
Earlier, the VIP spectators with passes for the Republic Day used to get parking labels but now with the new rule visitors this time availed the park-and-ride stickers.
"Besides security concern, parking space was reduced due to the ongoing construction work of the Delhi Metro. So to improve the traffic circulation plan the scheme was introduced," the officer said.
The traffic police had issued a directive for the invitees to reach the two parking lots between 7.30 am and 9 am.
