DU college seeks legal aid on VP accused of sodomising six students

Delhi University's Ramjas College has sought legal advise on its move to accord compulsory retirement to its vice-principal who was found guilty by the institute's complaint committee of sexually harassing half a dozen male students.

B N Ray, Vice-Principal and a senior faculty in the political science department of the college was accused by over half a dozen male students of the department of sexually harassing them.

The College Complaint Committee (CCC) had found the charges against Ray "valid".

The college's governing body during a meeting on Wednesday, decided to accord compulsory retirement to Ray.
A similar decision was taken in November last year by the body and made recommendations to the college to retire Ray after a section of students and teachers protested against him.

"The college governing body has decided to seek legal help on the reply from Ray who has been served a showcause notice after the college decided to take disciplinary action and has recommended compulsory retirement for him," Principal Rajendra Prasad said.

Prasad said the teacher has submitted a 48-page reply on the notice in which he has tried to defend himself.
Ray also moved the Delhi High Court in the case earlier last year pleading that he was not allowed to cross-examine complainants and to produce defence witnesses in the case.

Ray had submitted that all allegations were false. However, on January 20, 2008, the Delhi High Court had granted permission for further probe against the suspended vice-principal.

College authorities said Ray was not taking classes since October last year after the case came to light.
