Two brothers from Delhi have taken the desert by storm. Umesh and Yogesh Raheja brought laurel to the Capital by defeating 31 participants in their category at the six-day Desert Storm rally, which ended in Udaipur, Rajasthan, on Sunday.

Daredevils from across the country, including 60-70 Delhiites, had vied for the top honour. The rally, which traversed approximately 2,600 km through the interiors of Rajasthan and along the Gujarat coastline culminated at the palace city Udaipur.

"We started rallying for fun. But now we are taken seriously," said Umesh. He gave the credit of victory to his elder brother who was his navigator.

"The navigator plays an important role specially in a desert rally where you don't know which way to go and even a single turn can make you lose your track. My brother calculates the direction after every 100 metres and I blindly follow him. Fortunately, he is always right," said Umesh.

The duo, who are adventure junkies, have been participating withu00a0 new cars done up with the latest gizmos. This time they installed an electronic jack, an automatic wench that is used for F1 cars and electric tyre pressure monitoring system in their Maruti Swift. "For such rallies, the car needs regular maintenance. This year we have spent around Rs 3 lakh in our car. We will use the prize money to upgrade our vehicle for the next race. We participate in the rally for the thrill of adventure, not for money," said Yogesh.
