Music lovers here may miss a date with Bryan Adams today as city cops have denied permission for his concert citing security concerns
Fans of Bryan Adams looking forward to a rocking concert from the 52-year-old star may end up disappointed today. Delhi police has held back the no objection certificate (NOC) to the organisers of the show scheduled to be held at NSIC Grounds in Okhla area of southeast Delhi this evening. According to sources cops could also lodge a case against the promoters of the event.
"Permission has not been granted by Delhi police to hold the concert. Without our permission how can they begin?" said Delhi police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat. Bryan Adams is on his five-city tour of India organised by Netsurf Entertainment.u00a0 The singer attracted huge crowds at his concerts at Pune and Mumbai. Two of his shows were held at Bangalore on February 13 and the next concert is scheduled to be conducted in Hyderabad on Wednesday.
According to a senior police official, the organiser of the concert doesn't have an NOC (no objection certificate) from any government department, like fire, licensing and police in the Capital. Fans of Bryan Adams who have bought his concert tickets are now in dilemma whether they will be able to see their star perform at all.
"The organiser has cheated people by selling concert tickets far exceeding the original capacity of the venue and without having NOCs from any government department. We are mulling about lodging a cheating case against them," said the official. He said that the venue is capable of holding around 6000 people, while tickets have been sold to more than 10,000.
"The parking facility is too little for 10,000 people. The organisers have not made any plans for VIP, exit and rescue routes. Until these three routes are not shown to police they can not be granted permission," added the official.
"We are not paid employees of the organisers to plan these routes for them if they consider it as a duty of the police. NSIC Ground is not meant for such a big event. The roads of the area are not prepared for such a heavy traffic rush of potentially 10,000 vehicles," said the official.
A senior police official of southeast Delhi said that if any untoward incident occurred then the police would be held guilty and this was a risk they could not afford to take."Three years ago 64 people were charred to death in a fire incident that took place at a trade fair in Meerut. The then DM was booked under a criminal case. If such a thing happens senior police officials of southeast Delhi will be booked," said a top police official who did not wish to be named.
Fire department officials have stated that they are yet to inspect the venue and have not given the concert's promoterts an NOC. "The show is still on. Who said it's cancelled?" said the spokesperson of the event's organisers
"The organisers are cooperating with all concerned authorities and are in the process of closing all formalities pertaining to the concert. Mumbai and Bangalore saw successful shows with all formalities duly undertaken and concerts in New Delhi and Hyderabad will also be on the same lines," said an official close to the organisers.
