Now, for his efforts, the 25-year-old, who had turned into a teacher for Yashwantrao Chavan Vidyaniketan, a PMC school in Yerawada, has been conferred with the ‘Karmaveer Chakra and REX Karmaveer Global Fellowship’.

Maloo, who calls himself a committed ‘Earth volunteer by responsibility’, said, “I am very happy that I have received such a prestigious honour. It all began in a classroom in Pune, when I decided to take up the ‘Teach for India’ fellowship in 2011-13. There, I worked with children to promote volunteering, and proactive citizenship among them, to realise the immense potential they have to be the agents of change and make a difference. In the second year of my stint, I got associated with the family of global volunteers.

This led to my travelling to all over the world –places like Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Philippines – to promote volunteering for various causes. It not only improved me as a person, but also inspired me to participate in more such initiatives in future. Now, with a friend, I am planning to start an organisation in Jaipur, which will deal with the issues like environmental sustainability.

The fellowship is awarded annually to ‘an outstanding human being’ who receives a trophy, citation and the granting of ‘One Dream to Change the World’.
