Rock band Tungzten loves playing music from RD Burman to Iron Maiden. More than a decade old now, the trio is formed ofu00a0 Shital (guitar and vocals), Dhananjay aka Dhanya (drums, percussion, and vocal) and Abhijeet (bass and lead vocalist). WHAT's ON spoke to Shital about their upcoming performance.

What have you planned for tonight?
Tungzten specialises in original numbers, so we will mostly be playing songs from our self-titled album, including tracks like Jump Start, Alive Again, Despair, Growing Up and Alone. We will perform a fewu00a0 new numbers as well. Our kind of music has helped us connect with the older generation and families, who form a major part of our audience.

Tell us something about the band members.
Most fans are unaware that we came out with our first album in 2000 and it was recorded in my own studio. I happen to be a full-time musician plus a guitar teacher, and am also involved in composing and producing. Dhanya is a former banker and is now a freelance financial accountant and full-time musician. Abhijeet is a musician and is also working at Wipro.u00a0

Tell us about your experience performing in the city.
I find it interesting that Pune has an audience for every genre of music.u00a0

How has the growth of the hospitality sector helped bands, as most of the performances happen at restaurants and lounges?
It has certainly helped expose local talent as more bands get a platform to perform. It doesn't matter whether it is a large or a small group, but performing in restaurants, lounges and music exhibitions certainly helps prove their mettle.
