Were trying to extort money from a Delhi scrap dealer

A 52-year-old scrap dealer was allegedly kidnapped and beaten up by four persons who were posing as CBI officials in Sonia Vihar area of east Delhi, the police disclosed on Sunday night. The accused, who have been arrested, reportedly reside in the quarters at Shahdara police station raising suspicions that they were cops.

The police did not divulge any information about them.

"My brother Mohammed Rohilla was sitting inside his shop when four men came travelling in a WagonR that was bearing a fake number plate. They took my brother with them and thrashed him inside the moving car. They claimed to be senior officials of the CBI and accused my brother of selling stolen goods. Later they demanded Rs 2 lakh from him. The amount was negotiated and they agreed to Rs 50,000," said the brother of the victim who did not wish to be named.

He said that Rohilla then called the family members who informed the police. Two of the accused fled from the spot while two others were caught.

"Anil, who has been nabbed, lives in quarter number 6 at Shahdara police station while the second accused Hitler Singh is also a resident of Shahdara," said a police officer.

The culprits have been booked under charges of extortion and criminal intimidation and were being interrogated when reports last came in.
