Financial crisis won't affect railways: Lalu

Railways Minister Lalu Prasad today said despite global economic meltdown there would be no hike in passenger fares and the department will set another record in profit-making for the fifth straight year.

"The railways achieved remarkable profit for the last four years despite the fares not being increased. This time also there will be no enhancement in passenger fair, and the department will overwhelm the profits achieved during previous years," he said.

Addressing a gathering after renaming Dhanbad district's Gomoh station as the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose junction to mark his birth anniversary, the RJD supremo said global economic recession would not be any hindrance in railways earning record profits.

"The global economic crisis has not affected the development pace of the Indian railways, and all the projects are under progress and will be completed on time," he said.

Stating that his personal effort made coolies the employees of the railways, he said the department had chalked out new plans to create more jobs in the railways.

The RJD supremo said the Muslim community in Mumbai showed their integrity and patriotism by not allowing the burial of the dead terrorists involved in the 26/11 terror strike.
