Au00a0fire broke out at a cloth shop in Babajan Chowk around 1.15 am today.
The shop owned by Shankar Bakle sells women's wear. Neighbours sitting around saw smoke emanating from the windows of the shop and informed the fire brigade and the owner.
Bakle said clothes worth Rs 7 lakh were in the shop. "All the clothes are destroyed, nothing is left," said Bakle.
"We could only see ashes all around once we opened the shop."
He said the reason behind the fire was yet to be ascertained. "The officials suggested it could be a short circuit. No one was hurt as the shop is empty at night."
A team of five officials with a water tank was present at the spot.
Man falls to death from sixth floor
A man identified as Shivaji Haribhou Kovele (30), a resident of Yerawada, lost his life after falling from the sixth floor.
The man was working at the construction site around 8.30 pm when the incident happened. His co-workers claimed he slipped.
Kovele was rushed to Shah Hospital where he was declared dead. Later around 10 pm, his body was sent to Sassoon Dead House. According to doctor at duty at the dead house, the man had curbed to severe head injuries.
