The materials kept inside the warehouse were made of plastic and stored in wooden boxes. There were
oil drums and paint boxes also in the storeroom. Nobody was injured in the incident, as it took place after the godown was shut down for the night. The Pimpri-Chinchwad fire brigade got a call around 11.15 pm and a team of 16 firemen reached the spot in a few minutes. The operation continued for more than seven hours as the firemen faced many difficulties while dousing the conflagration.
"The warehouse was about eight kilometres away from the Kanhe Phata on the old Pune-Mumbai highway. We had limited water tankers at our disposal and the site was far away," said Bharat Phalke, senior fireman from Wallabhnagar fire station. "So, we had to make around six to eight trips to and fro from the Kanhe Phata, where a eatery owner provided us water from his well. This arrangement was also possible only after MLA Balasaheb Bhegde intervened."
