Even though the leader of fire gang Sonu is behind bars, it seems some new groups have started adopting his modus operandi and started their 'operations' in the Capital.u00a0 On April 19, some unknown persons broke into the house of the personal assistant of an All India Congress Committee general secretary and after committing theft, set it on fire.
A senior police official said that the victim Mohan Kumar Menon is a native of Kerala and lives in Pocket II in Mayur Vihar area where the incident took place on Tuesday.
"Menon had taken leave from the Congress office for 15 days and had gone to his home town in Kerala when the burglars struck at his house. After committing the crime, they set the house on fire before fleeing the scene.
His neighbour saw smoke emanating from the house and called his relative who lives nearby and police," said a police source adding the thieves made away with valuables worth lakhs. Similar incidents have been reported earlier from the various parts of the Capital.
