The accused have been identified as Afsar Khan alias Appi, Saleem Ahmed, Farooq, Afroz and Nazeem. They were produced before the magistrate and were to taken to police custody for further investigations.
Ali was shot dead on Sunday near his office in Yarabnagar, while he was returning from a saloon after a haircut. The assailants had opened fire on Ali and had hacked him to death. The police suspected that it is Appi who shot Ali dead. Appi was allegedly planning to eliminate Ali, after the latter had assaulted Appi's father over a trivial row.
The other accused are said to be the accomplices of Asgar, who is presently in Bellary jail. Asgar was convicted in a dacoity case and it is said that he was arrested on Ali's tip off.
The source added that the plan was finalised around a month and half ago, when rowdy turned film producer, actor and realtor Mahim contacted Asgar over phone and came to an understanding.
Mahim consented to provide logistic and financial support to execute the plan, while Asgar took the responsibility of arranging assailants, the source said. Asgar coordinated from jail using phones and allegedly guided his men to eliminate Ali.
