Travelling store, The Tribe, is paying a day-long visit to lifestyle store Bliss where you get to buy western apparel, accessories, handmade sarees, and 'evil edibles'

Here today, gone tomorrow might describe the elusiveness of life, the fleeting nature of fame and in the interest of the shopaholic, the motto by which The Tribe lives. This unique travelling shop exhibits their wares within the premises of another shop or salon for a day, after which they pack up and disappear till their next show in another space.

Why the gypsy-inspired shop, we quiz Diya Mehta, the lady who conceptualised and kick-started The Tribe six months back. "It's accessible to a mixed bag of people whom we may not meet otherwise. Plus, there are lower overhead costs and as the designers don't need to make products in bulk, they can play around with concepts and designs," is her belief behind this unique retail module.

Here and there
This time around, for their third exhibition, The Tribe is headed to Bliss in Andheri. You can tuck into evil edibles by Momozila including unique bacon and onion jams, momos and brownies. With adequate ammo, you can check out Lemon's summer range of cotton and mal shorts, skirts and vibrant tops with pompoms and dresses. Stack up your shoe collection by stopping by Pari Gala's hand-painted, graphic art-inspired shoes or her gunny bag-resembling beanbags with funky slogans.

The handbag line by Peeps sport interesting designs and colours on the inside and outer fabric. Besides, there are Passion Fruit's hand-painted accessories that include glasses and ashtrays with tongue-in-cheek statements. Pamper your spiritual side with Vermilion's men's wear and home decor line; their linen shirts with images of deities like The Buddha will make you stand out in a crowd.

Bangalore-based Pencil Dots' "six yard wonders" of hand-woven silk and cotton saris feature different designs on every part of the sari including pallu, the pleats and the drape. Look out for Ek Karkhana, a brand initiated by three National Institute of Design graduates who make snazzy sari clutches, kurtas, jhola bags and cushion covers.

The Tribe includes members who are not necessarily full-time designers. "It's a platform for people from various walks of life who develop a passion for art and craft later in life. The Tribe gives them an avenue to try their hand at it," Mehta shares. Members include an ad filmmaker, a fashion photographer and a furniture designer. "For us, it's not about sales and numbers, but about a creative thought process and allowing unique ideas to take form."
