Four members of a family, including two children, were killed and two other family members were injured after a 40-foot high wall, adjoining their tin hut in Ramnagar slums, Yerawada, came crashing down on them at 10.30 pm on Wednesday.u00a0The deceased have been identified as Anand Namdev Billore (70), his son Sudhakar Anand Billore (40), grandson Aakash Sudhakar Billore (12) and granddaughter Pallavi alias Shraddha (5) -- all natives of Kansurwadi in Jalgaon. Sudhakar was working in a hotel while his son and daughter were studying in Std VIIu00a0and I respectively at Gyanba Moze semi-English medium school in Nagpurchal.u00a0

Anand’s wife Lilabai and daughter-in-law Sangeeta have also sustained major injuries after coming under the weight of the falling debris of the cemetery wall, situated in Laxminagar cemetery area of Jaijawannagar. The remaining part of the 20-year-old, 600-metre long wall is in a dilapidated condition due to which other residents residing along the wall have been shifted to a nearby municipal school by civic authorities.u00a0Mayor Chanchala Kodre, MLA Bapu Pathare visited the spot around 2 am, while Leader of the House in the PMC Subhash Jagtap, Deputy Commissioner Rajendra Jagtap, and local corporators arrived at the spot later in the morning.u00a0
According to police, Anand and Lilabai Billore had come to Pune from Jalgaon on Monday to watch the Ganeshotsav celebrations in the city. Sudhakar had returned home after the immersion of their Ganpati idol and the entire family had dinner together. After dinner Lilabai and Sangeeta were working in the kitchen while Anand and Sudhakar were sleeping in the front room when it started raining heavily.
Due to the heavy rains, the cemetery wall collapsed on the house and all four were trapped inside. Some neighbours heard the loud noise and rushed to help the Billores. However, due to fear of electrocution, they could not remove the tin-sheets and debris piled upon the victims. Power supply was interrupted byMSEDCL after citizens called and notified them of the incident.u00a0Meanwhile, fire brigade officials rescued Sangeeta and Lilabai. The other four were found dead under the debris.
