B'lore blasts accused allegedly conducted lectures on jehad in Kondhwa to provoke youngsters
According to a source in the city police, 26-year-old Maulana Hussain Shabbir Meheruddin Gangajali, an accused in July 2008 serial blast in Bangalore, had been allegedly conducting lectures on jehad in Kondhwa. Also, he's believed to provoke youths to adopt violence.
The source added than it wasn't his first time in Pune and he had visited the city a couple of times in the past to conduct such lectures.
Mohammed Peerbhoy, a techie who attended Gangajali's lectures, was arrested from Pune for his alleged links with the Indian Mujahideen's (IM). He is also believed to be the one who used to send terror e-mails after various blasts in the country. Another IM member, who also attended Gangawali's lectures, was arrested from Pune recently.
It may be recalled that Gangajali was arrested from Janwadi Mosque on December 31, 2008, for his alleged terror links. Also, the police had recovered 250 fake currency notes of Rs 100 denomination from his possession. Gangajali was produced before the First Class Magistrate G G Itkalkar yesterday who remanded him to magisterial custody till January 23.
