Guard held for woman's rape in destitute home

The Deccan police have arrested a 48-year-old security guard for allegedly raping a 27-year-old woman in a destitute home located on Karve Road at Erandwane.

The Deccan police have arrested a 48-year-old security guard for allegedly raping a 27-year-old woman in a destitute home located on Karve Road at Erandwane. The case was registered on Thursday after the incident came to light on Wednesday morning.

The suspect has been identified as Ashok Bapurao Khunte (48), a resident of Pandavnagar. He has been remanded in police custody till January 3 after he was produced in the court.u00a0

As per the complaint registered by the superintendent of the hostel, Khunte allegedly raped the victim several
times between December 10 and 28 in the parking space of one of the buildings of the hostel.

Police Inspector Kashinath Umbarje from the Deccan police station said, "Based on the complaint by the superintendent, we have arrested Khunte from his home in Pandavnagar."

One of the members of the managing committee of the hostel said, "The victim was staying in the destitute home since the last 10 years and was also taking vocational courses here." U S Yadav, a sub inspector at Deccan police station, is investigating the case further.
