IT'LL be a grand affair. Scheduled to reach India from Pakistan at the Wagah border on June 25, magnificent plans are afoot to showcase the Queen's baton as a build-up to the Commonwealth Games (CWG).

The federation is leaving no stone unturned to let the international event captivate viewers with much fanfare. Before the Games baton reaches the country's shores, preparations for a large convoy are in the process for a country-wide relay.

According to CWG officials, the convoy will comprise 12 Sedans or SUVs of the same make, six modified mini buses and a large media vehicle with kitchenette, bathroom, toilet and refrigerator among other facilities. The federation convoy will also have a truck to carry logistics.u00a0

Adding colour to the event would be bikers on both sides of the convoy from Hero Honda, the official sponsors of the event. "This convoy is being organised by the Commonwealth Games Federation. The states' contingents that are being facilitated by them will be separate. It will include cultural teams, sportspersons and youth teams. All these vehicles will be taken on rent from some agency by the federation.

The convoy is being planned to have GPS equipment to track the movements," said a CWG official.u00a0u00a0 State governments, too, have started their preparations for the event. The route of the baton relay has been finalised for all the states. There'll be road shows in Kolkata, Goa, Ahmedabad, north eastern states, and of course, in other parts of the country as well.u00a0 The campaign will culminate on June 25 in Amritsar with the arrival of the baton in the country," added the official.

Confirming this, official spokesperson, CWG, Lalit Bhanot said, "Queen's baton relay convoy will consist of 30 vehicles. Twenty five people from Commonwealth Games Federation will be part of the convoy, which will start from Wagah border and proceed in a clockwise direction, covering all states.
