Sixteen-year-old Salman Pasha is feeling rather light these days. Thanks to a laproscopic gastric sleeve resection surgery at St Philomena's Hospital on July 5 last year, the 165-kg boy had lost 40 kg.
Before
Seven months from then, pasha now stands at 73.6-kg, a remarkable feat. Quite understandably, he feels much better now, as he can walk around, and lie down on the floor.
A year ago, in his old 165-kg avatar, he could barely walk, or even lie down. He was resigned to sleep in a chair, since he would get irregular breathing while trying to lie down on the floor.
After
"Salman was successful in reducing his weight by almost 90 kgs because of his strict diet and regular exercises. He has to take soft regular diet in small quantity with frequent intervals (1,500 to 1,800 calories).
I have also advised him to take smashed rice with dal, vegetarian and non-vegetarian soups and egg white, which has high protein," said Dr Anand, consultant, General and Laparoscopic surgery, St Philomena's Hospital.
He has been suggested a few exercises for his lower abdomen, lower and upper limbs and chest. "I still feel a bit tired while walking, but it has given me more confidence. I am following the doctors' instructions," said Salman.
Dr Anand said, "I have prescribed him iron, calcium and multi-vitamin tablets to balance the diet. There is still some sagging in his lower abdomen, arms and thighs, which will disappear slowly once his muscles gets toned."
The doctors are planning another surgery shortly. "Both his legs need to be operated by an orthopedic surgeon as he has bow legs. Even this surgery will be done for free."
