“I still have hope that my baby will be found. My family has asked me to remain strong and fight till the day we succeed. So I won’t shed another tear,” said Jasmine Naik whose one-day-old baby was stolen from Nowrosjee Wadia Maternity hospital in Parel (E).

Today marks one month to the day the baby was stolen from the post-natal ward no 9 of the hospital. Yet, there is no information about the baby or the baby-snatcher.

The Naiks continue to await the return of their baby, and are firm on their decision of not leaving the hospital. While the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) has taken cognisance of the lax security measures at the institute, and instructed hospital authorities about the same, the hospital management has failed to install CCTV cameras, which they assured, would be instateed at the earliest.

When MiD DAY visited Wadia hospital yesterday, we observed that the management had not fulfilled it’s promise of installing CCTV cameras. Though private security has been hired at the hospital, the Naik family feels that the management should have initiated it much before their baby was stolen.

When MiD DAY met with Additional Municipal Commissioner, Manisha Mhaiskar, to enquire about the developments regarding issues at Wadia hospital, she said that the Home minister for State had called for a meeting recently that also saw Wadia authorities in attendance.

“In the meeting, Wadia management has assured us that the proposal for additional security guards and installation of CCTV cameras have been sanctioned and are under process. Hence no action has so far been initiated against the hospital management,” said Mhaiskar.

Commenting on rumours about the Wadia management wanting to shutdown the hospital, Mhaiskar added, “According the BMC development proposal, the land on which the Wadia hospitals stand have been permanently reserved for hospital usage. It has been made very clear to the management that the land at any given point in the future cannot be used for any other purpose except for running a hospital.” u00a0
