India's premier B-school Indian Institue of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) today announced the launch of its week-long programme on Food Supply Chain Management.

The Institute will ask the Central and State governments to promote the first of its kind week-long programme for executives, Programme Coordinator Prof G Raghuram said on the sidelines of 5th Agri Business Summit - Amaethon.

"The new course in food-supply chain management will start from February 15," Raghuram said.

"The government bodies like Food Safety and Standard Authority, and facilitating agencies like APEDA (Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Agency), National Dairy Development Board and Fisheries Development Board need to visualise importance of food supply chains.

This course will help them improve their functioning," he said.

The course for executives provides insights on key issues related to food-supply chain management such as policy and regulatory environment, logistics and infrastructure management, Raghuram added.

"We have plans to integrate the course content with our on-going Agri Business Management programme, but it all depends on the feed back from the executives," Raghuram said.

Food-supply chain is an important area and priority should be given in reaching the poor, he added.
