India pleased with China's initiative to resolve Yiwu incident issue

Expressing satisfaction with the criminal proceedings initiated by China against five locals suspected to be responsible for the torture of two Indian businessmen, Krishna said that the issue should not be blown out of proportion as it may impact the good relations between the two countries.

Chinese Ambassador to India, Zhang Yan, met Krishna earlier today and assured early resolution of the diplomat row and safety of Indian traders detained near Shanghai.

"From Chinese side, the Chinese Government attaches great importance to this matter and we are working very hard, to try to provide a solution to this issue, to resolve it as early as possible and we are coordinating and communicating with the development," said Zhang Yan.

"China is a society of rule of law; I think everything will be settled through legal procedure, through Chinese law and regulations. I think those people are safer and they have the freedom," he added.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had earlier summoned the Chinese Deputy Chief of Mission in New Delhi to lodge its protest over the ill treatment meted out to an Indian diplomat posted at the Indian consulate in Shanghai.
