Scheduled Tribe MBBS aspirants to be admitted to Mumbai's Grant Medical College after their admissions suffered because of non-receipt of caste documents before the deadline

After complaining about the delays in procuring caste certificates from the Zilla Parishad, reserved category medical aspirants claim they were not able to meet the deadline on July 12 as they did not receive their documents even after applying for it three months before. Giving them a token of relief, the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) officials announced that these students would be allotted admissions at Mumbai's Grant Medical College on Monday. The students would be asked to provide an undertaking about their case validity and give a time period stating when they are would submit their original certificates.

DMER Joint director, Dr Pravin Shengare, said, "Since the number was very small, we decided to fulfill the admission process in Mumbai."u00a0 Failing to receive their documents, students also complained to the state officials. According to a recent government resolution, the certificate has been made a mandatory document to be submitted while seeking admissions. As a result of this delay, students will not be able to avail the privileges accorded to them as reserved category students.

Engineering aspirants went through the same problems over the procurement of domicile certificates.
