College chums. Songs and strums. And now, the whole world hums. Paranoid Earthling, a leading rock band from Sri Lanka, started their journey at Kandy, and are stopping over in the city for the first time tomorrow. They flirt with post-grunge, punk, funk, Seventies' sounds and retro-blues. Meanwhile, we decided to flirt a little with frontman Mirshad Buckman.u00a0

Happy to have you over. Are you?
Of course! India is a fascinating place, and we're an adventurous lot. We love to meet new people, travel and catch up with nature. India's a good place to do that. The art and music scene is great, too. We also hope to catch up with other bands like Parikrama. We're huge fans of theirs.
Aren't you apprehensive, too, since you're first timers here?
Mixed feelings, actually. We're all geared up, though.u00a0u00a0
What sets your music apart?
The contribution of psychedelic elements and industrial landscapes. Plus, our tracks question concepts such as democracy, violence, conflict, religion and social hierarchies. The rest is for you to check out and say!
How's Sri Lanka coming on rock?
It's been a great movement, lately. The country's doing everything from country, grunge and punk, and fresh bands are coming on the scene like never before. Youngsters from Sri Lanka often travel to Bangalore to catch the gigs there. So the exchange is super-healthy, too.
How do you guys stick together?
We started out in school, stuck through college and that's how it carries on. We're a fun bunch, like to hang out together, and that's how we do it!
Bands you idolise?
Nirvana, The Doors, Led Zeppelin.
Paranoid Earthlings will be playing tomorrow at Hard Rock Cafe, DLF Place, Saket, 9.30 pm onwards
