Ashwin Jayantilal Shah (53), hailing from Vadodara, Gujarat, who was caught by the Pune railway police three months ago at Miraj, was brought to the city and booked for two more jewellery robberies.



Shah, an accountant working with a private company, was first arrested three months ago by the railway police under the charges of stealing a purse of a woman during a railway journey.

"He was wanted for two other crimes, which had taken place under the jurisdiction of Pune railway police," said Senior Police Inspector Mahendra Rokade.

Shah used to travel in long distance trains like Jhelum Express, Pune-Jaipur or Mumbai-Bangalore. During the journey he wouldu00a0 keep a watch on the women passengers.

As soon as they would take a nap, being an opportunist, he would steal from them, added Rokade.

Investigating officer Assistant PI Mahendra Bagade said that they received a break in the case when Surekha Mane and Asha Kamble's description was similar to Shah.

Shah was brought back to the city yesterday at 10 pm.u00a0 During the interrogation, it was revealed that the jewellery items were sold to a Mumbai based jeweller. However, the police have recovered the stolen items.
