Just days before President Pratibha Patil's visit on November 25, the Pune Police arrested two Rajouri residents on the suspicion of possessing forged arms licence issued with 0.12 bore rifles.

Now, investigations have revealed that one of the arrested was issued an arms licence when he was still under age.

The Warje Police arrested Mohammed Sharif (28), and Mohammed Naseed alias Latif (18), both residents of Sumi village in Rajouri, at Warje bus stop, carrying two 0.12 bore rifles and an all India permit arms licence. The cops suspected the genuineness of their licence and registered a case against them under Section 467, 471 of the IPC.

DCP Dnayneshwar Phadtare (Zone I) told MiD DAY, "One of the arrested was issued an arms licence when he was still under age."

He added, "We will be sending a team to Rajouri to verify whether the necessary procedure was followed before issuing the licence."

ACP Savita Turekar said, "One of the arrested said that they have received the arms license in just a month."

Turekar faxed a letter to Deputy Commissioner Rajouri District and Jammu and Kashmir with the details of the arms licence.

PI S N Sonwalkar said, "During interrogation they revealed that they had come here to work as security guards."
