Kidnapped city pilot comes home safe

City-based pilot Syed Mazhar (25), working in Africa with a local airline Goma Express, who was taken hostage by the rebels and later released on August 1, is back in the city.

Mazhar was kidnapped by rebellions on July 24.

He was very happy and relieved about his safe return.

"I had not believed that I would return safely in the same condition. I have suffered a lot and I don't want to recall the past, I just want to forget everything and move ahead in my life," said Syed Mazhar.

He also said that he was thankful to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, External Affairs Minister S M Krishna and officers in Africa for his safe return.

He also expressed his gratitude to the Indian embassy in Congo and the government for helping him in getting free and coming back to the city.

"I would talk with my family members and decide whether to go back again or stay here," said Mazhar.

Mazhar's parents had earlier given a complaint to both the governments asking for help and to get their son released at the earliest.

They had earlier said, "Once he comes to Bangalore we won't allow him to go back. We will request our government to get him a job in India itself."

His parents were visibly happy on his return.
