Rehan, 28, was caught Wednesday from south Delhi's Kalindi Kunj area after his failed bid to kidnap the boy, Hammad Khan.
The boy's father, Quaisar Khan, said that Hammad went missing around 6.30 p.m. Wednesday.
"When he (Quaisar) reached home from work, his wife told him that their son was missing," a police officer said.
Quaisar, a computer operator, rushed to the main road. He spotted a man carrying a boy wrapped in a bed sheet who was about to board an auto rickshaw.
"He identified his son's T-shirt and raised an alarm. The kidnapper was caught with the help of passers-by and was beaten up while the auto rickshaw driver escaped," the officer added.
"The involvement of the driver has not been ruled out yet," he said.
Police said the child was drugged by Rehan, who was arrested in a similar case earlier in central Delhi's Chandi Mahal area.
