The versatile actress makes her stage debut in Bangalore this weekend. But tickets for The Blue Mug are already sold out, leaving fans upset

Konkona, along with Ranvir Shorey, Vinay Pathak and Rajat Kapoor, will be performing at Ranga Shankara from June 26-28. Though tickets are usually sold three days before the play, this time they were sold a week before and all tickets were grabbed within an hour of opening sales.

The other option is to catch the play at Kyra Theatre. But theatre-lovers will have to shell out Rs 400 for a ticket or Rs 1,400 if they want dinner and drinks included with it.

At Ranga Shankara, tickets cost Rs 200. Naturally, theatre-lovers and avid Bollywood fans are disappointed.

Oh no!

"I was making the rounds to the theatre since the very beginning of the month to grab my tickets. One fine day when I went to Ranga Shankara, I learnt that they were sold out. I am extremely disappointed," says Sudarshan W S (23), software engineer.

Lekha Adavi, who is part of a theatre group, complains she didn't even know the tickets were being sold on that day. "Konkona is such a versatile actor and it was my dream to watch her perform," she says.

Professionals are miffed that tickets were sold on a working day and that too for an hour.

"Since I am a software professional, I work till 6 pm. The day the tickets were being sold, I rushed to the theatre but learnt that they are sold out. This is extremely disappointing," says Venkatesh Murthy (34). He suggests that the troupe performs a few more shows in Bangalore on public demand.

Ranga Shankara officials try to defend themselves saying their rule is to sell at least 100 tickets at the venue for the first show.

"We had received only 500 tickets from the troupe. Normally, the tickets are sold three days before the play. But because of excess demand, we sold the tickets much earlier. On the very first day of sales, they were sold out," says Jagadish Malnad, manager of Ranga Shankara.

"We have tied up with Indian Stage, an online portal, to sell our tickets too. There, the tickets were sold out even before we started selling at the venue," says Bharavi who is coordinating ticket sales for this show.

He admitted that the public were misled about the ticket sales. "But we have sorted out everything and no tickets are available," he says.

But some theatre enthusiasts refuse to give up. "I don't mind paying extra to get the tickets. I will still try and hopefully I will get the tickets at the last minute," says Kasturi K (48), a homemaker.
