Lack of governance in Delhi led to Tania's death: Modi

Imphal: The "lack of governance" in Delhi led to the death of a student from Arunachal Pradesh in the national capital, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi said here on Saturday.

"The lack of governance in Delhi has led to Nido Tania's death in the national capital. I condemn the Nido Tania incident in Delhi, there is no place for such acts. It is a shameful and sad incident," said Modi while addressing a rally in the capital city of Manipur.

Tania, son of Arunachal Pradesh Congress legislator Nido Pavitra, died Jan 30 after being attacked following a row over his appearance.

Criticising the Congress state government, Modi said: "Manipur has seen some of the worst Congress governments. It's due to lack of political vision and with that resources are not being harnessed and the northeast is lagging behind."

He promised to bring the region at par with the other regions of India.

"You gave Congress 60 years but what good did that do to you? 60 years were ruined now please give us 60 months," he said.

Modi asked: "The PM represents this region in the Rajya Sabha but has he done anything in the northeast? The chief minister makes him inaugurate incomplete projects."

"Five years is enough to change the world but what has the PM done for the 23 years in which he has represented the northeast?" he said.

Manmohan Singh is a Rajya Sabha MP from Assam.
