Lavasa chairman charged with e-crime

The Sangli police have lodged a case of cyber crime against Ajit Gulabchand, the chairman of Lavasa Corporation, for allegedly posting incorrect information on the website of the reputed Walchand Engineering College run by the Maharashtra Technical Education society.

Along with Gulabchand, 11 others have also been booked in the case filed by the society's Divisional Administrative Superintendent Vivek Laxman Bodas at the Vishrambaug police station in Sangli.u00a0According to the complaint filed by Bodas, the website of the society is registered with the state government and is the official platform for Walchand college to publish its information for all its students and their families worldwide.

"Gulabchand, with the help of the college principal and other administrative members, has tried to mislead the public by stating on the website that the college land and other property belongs to him and not to the society. Gulabchand has also published his photo on the website as the president of the society instead of Dr Anil Gandhi," Bodas alleged.

Bodas also claimed that the administrative council of which Gulabchand was nominated as chairman is illegal as it was formed days before the council was to expire. He challenged that there were no MTES society members present in the council hence the formation of the council be termed illegal.

When contacted, Superintendent of Police (Sangli) Dr Ravindra Shisve refused to give details of the case saying that he had no knowledge of the matter. "Only the local police station has the details," he said.
Police Inspector Nivas Salunkhe from the Vishrambaug police station said, "The offence has been registered as per the court order. The documents have been sent to Superintendent's office and the investigations are going on."

The Other Side
A spokesperson from the college e-mailed the version of Gulabchand's defence, in which he has mentioned that the society has filed a false complaint against the chairman and other members of the Administrative Council. The college will be initiating legal proceedings, the email said.
