Line, hook and catch of the day

Despite its name, Catch Marine divides its menu equally between fish, poultry, meat and vegetarian delights, but fish is the delicacy here

This season, sea food joints are coming up all over Bangalore.Think Seafood Risotto, Smoked Salmon or Cajun Shrimps; it's all here. And anyone who's heaped on John Dory in Creamy White Wine knows why it's so hot on the culinary trail. So, when the cool blue board of Catch Marine beckoned, it was time to decipher if this latest addition to the list of seafood restaurants would fit the bill.

We dawdled over the menu, which was as long as a letter to Santa Claus; and threw our line on the Catch of the Day. The Grilled White Pomfret (Rs 600), it was. The king-sized Pomfret grilled with butter garlic sauce on the inside as well as out was tender and fresh, with the natural flavours of the fish coming through. The herb rice and spring vegetables on the side, made it a complete meal, though a wee bit overpriced.

After flipping the Pomfret upside down and forking it inside out, we realized the deep inside was still slightly on the raw side and could have done with a little more grilling.

It was time to share and sample another special from the menu. The Louisiana Seafood (Rs 450) from the Combos section seemed the right pick. The sea sole fillet was served with a creamy Alfredo sauce, topped with garlic sauteed shrimps, accompanied by pilaf diced tomatoes, broccoli and bread on the side. We found a small bone or two in our fillet, which was supposed to be boneless.

There's also a selection of soups, salads and appetizers on the menu, like the Joan's Platter, with sea sole, mussels and calamari and Admiral Platter with Ocean Crumbed Queen Prawns, Grilled line fish, Karafe Chilli Prawns, Fried Squid and Chilly Garlic Mussels or Maggie's Chicken. You could also go the Texan way if you please, with Texas Cheese Melts and Quesadillas.

A whole page dedicated to the Kids section with great combo meals of a choice of chicken wings, fish fingers, spaghetti or penne in sauce of your choice u2013 creamy or arrabiata with soft drink and ice-cream, on the menu is quite thoughtful.

For desserts, there is the classic Tiramisu on the menu, but we tried the New York Het Top Cheese Cake (Rs 250), with chocolate sprinkled and dusted on yummy cheesecake, which gave me an oomph as I went weak in my knees.

Downside: The service is a little slow, but the food quite makes up for the waiting and since the helpings are large they can be shared by two medium eaters, the high price doesn't pinch.

At Catch Marine, 100 ft Road, Indiranagar, (above Van Heusen showroom)
Meal for two Rs 1,800.

Catch Marine didn't know we were there. The Guide reviews anonymously and pays for meals.
