A 27-year-old nurse working in a private hospital lodged a rape complaint against her former fianc ufffd after he refused to marry her.
The nurse, who hails from Ratnagiri, met Surendra Bhoje (30), who lived near her married sister's residence in Pavas village of Ratnagiri district, in 2001.
According to the victim, Bhoje raped her several times at a lodge in Chinchwad after promising her marriage.
She said Bhoje would come to the city on weekends to meet her. In 2008 Bhoje and the victim got engaged, but he soon returned her engagement ring and told her he was not interested in marrying her.
In May 2009, the victim filed a case of cheating under IPC Section 417 and 420 against Bhoje with the Ratnagiri Rural Police, but the case was withdrawn.
"The case was withdrawn after the victim and the accused reached a compromise," PSI Ramzan Sayyed said.
The two resumed their relationship and again began meeting each other as they had done before ufffd till the victim realised that she was pregnant.
When the nurse told her fianc ufffd she was carrying, he advised an abortion as he feared people in their village would come to know about their relationship. The victim followed his instructions and aborted the baby, but after that Bhoje became hostile towards her and announced that he was not interested in marrying her.
The deceived nurse then filed a case of rape against her fianc ufffd.
"We have sent our team to Pavas to arrest the suspect," PSI Sayyed said.
