MNS chief Raj Thackeray on Tuesday demanded that toll collection where the contract had expired be immediately stopped or else the party would be forced to call for an agitation. Thackeray had said the collection of toll at booths went unabated even when the tenure has ended and no one bothered to check it.

"Fourteen persons including Shinde and three MNS corporators were held under the IPC section 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty). They have also damaged some property at the toll naka," Deputy Police Commissioner Sanjay Shintre told PTI.

According to police sources, the enraged protestors manhandled cops for stopping them from holding demonstration and ransacking the cabin there. A worker pelted stones leading to damage of the cabin windows. The party workers also demanded the stoppage of toll collection at the Mulund, police said.

While the 14 persons were held, the rest were detained for a while before being let off, police said adding that the arrested accused would be produced before a local court tomorrow.u00a0
