Fire caused by short circuit destroys electronic goods worth Rs 1 cr; renders around 20 monkeys living in trees on property homeless

A fire that engulfed Indian Military's Canteen Stores Departmentu00a0 yesterday, turned electronic goods worth Rs 1 crore to ashes. According to insiders, the fire took place due to a short circuit in the electric wires.

The fire took place on the second floor where fiber goods were kept and within a span of 10 minutes, it spread throughout the floor.

Firemen attempt to douse the fireu00a0at the Military Canteen Stores, while a monkey struggles to escape.


Monkeys in trouble


Director General of Fire Brigade Jija Hari Singh said, "We are yet to find the reason behind the accident. The fire was so big that we had to use 30 fire tenders to bring it under control.

Though no casualties were reported, one could see monkeys getting severely affected due to the fire. Around 20 monkeys that live on trees in the compound where the fire took place.

They were seen struggling to escape from the smoke and the flames emanating from the fire.

Also seen were military jawans serving tea to the fire men who were trying to control douse the flames.

Besides, security persons made sure no one enteredu00a0 the campus to facilitate smooth flow of the ongoingu00a0 rescue work.
