The Banasawadi police arrested Sandeep Piasm (32), a civil contractor from HRBR Layout, yesterday on charges of raping the five-month-old son of his Nepali security guard. The crime came to light on Saturday when a doctor attending to the infant confirmed that he had been sexually assaulted.
The victim's father, Deepak, had been working at Piasm's house for the past year-and-a-half. Deepak lived with his family on the third floor of Piasm's house.
On Thursday, Piasm and his wife Jennifer, told the reluctant parents that he wanted to take the baby to the doctor, as he appeared unwell.
When the baby's parents refused to part with him, Piasm called up Jennifer and asked her to convince the couple. Jennifer's intervention worked and the couple handed over their baby to Piasm.
When Piasm returned a few hours later, at 8 pm, he told the couple that the doctor had performed a minor surgical procedure on the baby's anus. Deepak became suspicious because the baby would not stop crying.
Piasm's replies were evasive, and left the spot in a hurry. The worried couple took their son to Udaya Surya Hospital, where a doctor confirmed that the baby had been raped. He said the skin of the baby's anus had ruptured from the assault and had been surgically stitched.
The couple filed a complaint, following which police arrested Piasm. Piasm has been remanded in judicial custody.
Inspector Sakri of the Banaswadi police station said Piasm was a retired forest officer. "Piasm is a well known contractor. He belongs to a reputable family. We are contemplating action against the doctor who performed surgery on the baby," said Sakri.
