Man offers to help lost teen, rapes her

In a horrific incident, a 13-year-old girl who landed in the city by accident was picked up by an auto rickshaw driver from Bandra Talao on the pretext of helping her and repeatedly raped. The girl, who lives in Madhya Pradesh, had a fight with her mother and in a fit of rage went to the station to catch a train to meet her brother who studies in Punjab. Instead, as luck would have it, she boarded the wrong train and landed in Mumbai on May 17.

Her misfortune continued as after whiling away for two days in the city, on May 19 she ended up at Bandra Talao. She was walking around aimlessly when Shekhar Raza (28), a rickshaw driver, spotted her and approached her with the offer of helping her. He escorted her in his rickshaw to Bandstand, where he allegedly tried to molest her. When the girl panicked he threatened her and took her back to his house in Bandra East. There, Raza and his friend Haidar Hashmi (24) took turns and raped her.

After allegedly raping her, the two accused brought the girl back to the talao and left her to fend for herself. The young girl then managed to reach Agripada, South Mumbai where a policeman on seeing her in a dishevelled state enquired about her condition. The girl narrated the tragic sequence of events, after which the cop accompanied her to Bandra (East).

The helpful policeman approached cops at Nirmal Nagar police station, who took the girl around the locality to locate the house where she was raped. After a few hours the girl recognised the place where she was taken, and both the accused were spotted and arrested by the police. “Both the accused have been charged under sections of molestation and rape. They were produced in the Bandra court the next day, and have been remanded to police custody. The girl has being sent to the remand home. We are trying to contact her family members,” said Abhay Shashtri, senior inspector at Bandra police station. u00a0
