A former MLA learnt the hard way that it is not worth trusting anyone, even those posing as Good Samaritans.
Ravikanth Patil, a former MLA (Bijapur district), visited the city in 2009 on business and was invited to stay at Tauheed Ayub Sheikh's (28) home.

recovered by the Chamarajpet police

Sheikh's kindness disguised his true intentions and Patil trusted him like a friend. However, his joy was short-lived when Sheikh stole his expensive mobile phone and wristwatch and vanished.

After several futile attempts to get back his valuables for two years, Patil approached the police. Based on his complaint, Chamrajpet police inspector B G Ratnakar went to Solapur jail where Sheikh was lodged and after questioning him, recovered the valuables.

Sheikh confessed that Patil stayed at his home in 2009 and he could not resist the urge to steal the Vertu mobile phone worth Rs 6.4 lakh and Rs 2.8 lakh Ulysses Nard wristwatch that Patil was using.

He said after stealing the items, he went to Solapur, which is his hometown. He also admitted that Patil called him up requesting that he return his belongings, but though he agreed to have taken the items, he was reluctant to return them.

Meanwhile, Shekih had been arrested in a cheating case and sent to Solapur sub-jail. Since there was no communication with Sheikh for the last two years, Patil approached the police seeking help to get back his valuables.

ACP NS Hussain said, "Sheikh was working with Patil two years ago when he committed the theft. We have brought him to the city on body warrant and remanded him in judicial custody at central prison."
