THE 22-year old Pune Festival during Ganapati will have a variety of programmes in Marathi that will appeal to the Punekar.
There will be a total of 15 different Marathi programmes, comprising plays, lavani mahotsav, sugam sangeet, film music and a Kolhapur festival. "Our aim is to entertain the Marathi as well as the non-Marathi audience," said Krishnakant Kudale, chief coordinator, Pune Festival.
The programmes are lined up at Balgandharva Rangmandir and Yashwantrao Chavan Natyagruha and will begin a day after Ganesh Chaturthi and continue throughout the week.
"Like every year, entry is free for all," Kudale said.
Mohan Tilloo, Marathi programme chief, Pune Festival, said that the Marathi social comedy, Swabhavala Aushadh Nahi, will be performed at the Yashwantrao Chavan Natyagruha in Kothrud on September 12, 2010 at 9 pm.
Other events are Mohammed Ayyaz's Sangeet Sandhya based on Hindi-Marathi songs, Marathi drama Wah Sunbai Wah!, starring movie actors Ashok Shinde and Maithili Javkar, and Hasyotsav Ekpatricha by Makarand Tilloo, Banda Joshi, Dilip Halyal and Mahendra Ganpule.
Popular plays Jhim Pori Jhim, written and directed by Santosh Pawar, and Gitanjali, a musical programme, Nad Karaycha Nay, a lavni by Maya Khutegaonkar and Trupti and Chaitralicha Nad Karaycha Nay by Chatrali Raje will be part of the festival.u00a0
"I love lavni programmes," said Rakesh Tiwari, an IT engineer from Uttar Pradesh. "The dances are good and I will be able to pick up some Marathi words."
