Soon after he was released on bail, D K alias Rahul alias Rohit alias Ravi Kumar has managed to make Rs 50 lakh in one year. His parents,u00a0 V Chandrashekhar and Mala, have gone underground to avoid arrest.

The incident came to light when an apartment owner on Old Madras Road, Aman Dutta, filed a complaint against one Suhas Reddyu00a0 who had rented a flat, claiming to be the son of revenue minister Karunakara Reddy. But he disappeared without paying two months' rent, amounting to Rs 1.8 lakh.

There were other complaints against Suhas Reddy. When police tracked him down with the help of mobile phone calls, they were surprised to find that the same man had been arrested earlier for cheating businessmen of Rs 11 crore.

Proficient in English, Kannada, Telugu and Tamil,u00a0 Suhas used to introduce himselfu00a0 either as the son of Karnataka state revenue minister Karunakara Reddy or union minister for shipping T R Baalu. He also claimed to represent various government departments.

Suhas, with his father's help, would surf the internet and get information about government tenders.u00a0

Armed with the information, he would call companies pretending to be a representative of that department and strike a deal. He would promise to buy products from the companies and would ask for a 10 per cent cut to be deposited in his personal account in advance. Once the money was paid, he would change his mobile number and disappear, said B N S Reddy, deputy commissioner of police, southeast division.
