Kamble, who has returned to power after 15 years by defeating the former MLA Ramesh Bagwe in Cantonment, is keen to continue building his relationship with his voters.

“People start blaming politicians when they feel that we abandon them after they elect us, not bothering about them for the next five years. But I will be available for people at my home, in my constituency and in the party office,” he said.

The grievance forum will be held at the BJP party office near Appa Balwant Chowk. “No matter how busy I get, I will be available at the BJP party office on one Sunday every month, where any citizen can share his or her grievances with me,” Kamble added.

Asked what he thought of people who approached MLAs to resolve basic issues that could be dealt with by corporators, Kamble said it was lamentable that such issues even existed.

“It is ironical that even after 67 years of independence, people in our country are facing problems in basic sectors like water, roads, health and education. So if someone comes to me with any basic work after they have not received any response from the local corporator, I will look into it and sort out their problems,” he said.

Top priority
On top priority, of course, are issues in his own constituency. “Pune Cantonment is dealing with many problems. One of the major problems is that because of the Cantonment Act, house owners in this area cannot undertake repairs or construction in their homes. A delegation of Pune MLAs is going to meet the Minister of State (Defence) Rao Inderjit Singh for this matter. The other issue I am going to resolve is ensuring all necessary approvals for the Ghorpadi overbridge,” he said.
