Monsoon enters Maharashtra from Vidarbha

The much-awaited monsoon changed its course to enter Maharashtra through Vidarbha instead of Konkan - its usual entry point on Saturday. This is due to the impact of West Bengal wind branch activeness.

Within 24 hours, the monsoon will be covering Konkan and Goa, and will also hit the south of Maharashtra, and cover some parts of Marathwada.

Usually, the monsoon reaches Vidarbha by June 10 after covering most areas of Konkan, Goa and south Maharashtra. But, this year, it entered Maharashtra through Vidharbha.

On June 8, monsoon struck Kerala this year and within a span of two days it reached north Karnataka. For the last eight days, however, the monsoon ceased to move ahead. This is because the monsoon Arabian Sea branch was inactive and was not getting favourable conditions.

On Saturday, monsoon reached Gadchiroli district in Maharashtra.

Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) claims that within 24 hours, monsoon will cover Konkan and Goa and will reach south Maharashtra and Marathwada.

Conditions are favourable for further advance of Southwest Monsoon into remaining parts of central Arabian Sea, some parts of central Maharashtra, entire Konkan and Goa and Marathawada, remaining parts of north interior Karnataka, Telangana, Vidarbha, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, some parts of east Madhya Pradesh and some parts of Bihar during next 48 hours.
